Could quarantine rules prevent the Blue Jays from playing in Canada?

The same concerns regarding quarantines hovering over the NHL as it plans the next phase of its return-to-play format could affect MLB in July.

Last week , Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared that cities in the country could serve as hub sites for NHL teams and other personnel "as long as it is OK'd by the local health authorities" even though the country extended a travel ban to non-essential workers through July 21.

What remained unclear, however, was if NHL players would have to quarantine for 14 days before resuming play up North.

On Tuesday, the Associated Press (h/t ESPN ) reported that MLB still hasn't submitted a proposal for the Toronto Blue Jays to host regular-season games at Rogers Centre in July.

"If there is some interest in that we would have to get a proposal from them, to see how they would undertake the uniqueness of bringing the team and other teams up here to play how that would work," Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said.

On Friday, Jared Diamond and Ben Cohen of the Wall Street Journal reported some MLB executives may recommend that the league place teams in bubble cities to finish the season, similar to how the NHL, NBA, Major League Soccer and NWSL intend to return to action this summer.

Last week, the Blue Jays temporarily closed their Florida spring training facilities due to rising coronavirus worries after a player tested positive.

It's not known if COVID-19 spikes throughout the state will prevent the Blue Jays from playing home games at TD Ballpark in Dunedin for the next several months.
