20 celebrities you forgot had a reality show

Lots of celebrities have become famous because of reality TV, but for some, it's the other way around. You probably forgot that these celebs had a reality show.

Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne
USA Today

One of the greatest rock and rollers to ever do it, Ozzy Osbourne proved that his talents lie beyond his musicality. He's also great at just being himself. Ozzy and the (almost) entire Osbourne clan made superb reality TV in the early 2000s with their self-titled series, The Osbournes

Flavor Flav

Flavor Flav
USA Today

The Bachelor's effect on American culture was far-reaching from the very beginning. VH1 saw the show's success and decided to give Public Enemy's Flavor Flav a dating competition show, The Flavor of Love. Flav didn't walk away with his forever match, but the general population was introduced to Tiffany Pollard, aka New York, which is enough to consider the series a success.

Bret Michaels

USA Today

Why stop with The Flavor of Love? VH1 looked for single popular musicians from the '80s and '90s to replicate the show's success and landed on Bret Michaels of Poison for Rock of Love with Bret Michaels. Spoiler alert: Michaels didn't end up with any of the show's winners.

Travis Barker

Travis Barker
USA Today

Long before he appeared on The Kardashians , Travis Barker had his own reality show with his ex-wife, Shanna Moakler. Meet the Barkers aired on MTV for two seasons in the mid-aughts, lasting just about as long as Barker and Moakler's marriage.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey were the reality TV "It" couple in the early 2000s. Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica had the world deeply invested in the marriage of two famous musicians who clearly weren't meant to be. The marriage and the show ended, but the moment Simpson wondered aloud whether she was eating chicken or fish will live on forever.

Ashlee Simpson

USA Today

Before her infamous SNL lip-synching incident effectively ruined Ashlee Simpson's singing career, the musician had a reality show, The Ashlee Simpson Show. Say what you want about Joe Simpson, but the man knew how to get attention put on his daughters.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears might have had the most apt name for a reality show in TV history. While married to Kevin Federline, the two starred in the short-lived series Britney and Kevin: Chaotic. If this series feels more like a fever dream than an actual memory, it's probably because it lasted five episodes and aired on UPN, a network that no longer exists.

Vanilla Ice

Vanilla Ice's reality show lasted longer than any of the shows on this list. Unsurprisingly, Vanilla Ice is a better contractor than he is a rapper, and he showed his true skills in The Vanilla Ice Project, which ran from 2010 to 2019.

Anna Nicole Smith

Though it didn't last long, The Anna Nicole Show was extremely successful while it was on. The larger-than-life personality that was Anna Nicole Smith was made for reality TV. The series was criticized for feeling too scripted, but viewers were still intrigued. It was hard not to be.

Hulk Hogan

The 2000s were a unique time. Seemingly anyone who had been semi-famous at some point in the '70s, '80s, or '90s was eligible for a reality show if they wanted one. Hulk Hogan took the bait, and he and his family starred in Hogan Knows Best for two seasons. Viewers can thank VH1 for that nonsense.

Ashton Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher's reality show experience was different than most. Rather than having cameras document his personal life, he was filmed orchestrating elaborate pranks on fellow celebrities on Punk’d. The series was a major hit, but it's easy to forget that Kutcher was behind it all.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie had claims to fame before their reality show, but after they co-starred in The Simple Life, they became bona fide icons. Others have replicated the show's structure, but none have been quite as entertaining as The Simple Life

Tia and Tamera Mowry

Tia and Tamera Mowry became famous thanks to their hit sitcom Sister, Sister, and the two drew on the scripted show's same appeal when they starred in their reality show Tia & Tamera. There's only one other set of famous twins from '90s sitcoms, and they're definitely not interested in having a reality show.

Whitney Houston

Bravo is so well-known for The Real Housewives franchise and Vanderpump Rules now it's hard to remember that the network once had a far more eclectic mix of reality series. Being Bobby Brown was one such show. The series starred Brown and his incredibly famous then-wife Whitney Houston for just one short season.

Kevin Jonas

Kevin Jonas
USA Today

Kevin Jonas is notoriously the least famous of the Jonas Brothers, but his brief reality TV stint in the early 2010s tried to change that. Kevin and his wife, Danielle Jonas, starred in Married to Jonas on E! Kevin returned to reality TV in 2022 to host the series Claim to Fame with Frankie Jonas, the only Jonas brother less famous than Kevin.

Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin
USA Today

Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List was another reality series that was part of the Bravo lineup before the network was officially taken over by wealthy middle-aged women fighting over birthday parties and sunglasses. The eponymous comedian's show won multiple awards, and it lasted for an impressive six seasons.

Tommy Lee

Perhaps the most random reality show ever (and that's saying something), Tommy Lee Goes to College followed Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee as he "attended" college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. There are still so many questions that likely will never be answered about this bizarre series.

Nick and Aaron Carter

It's hard to understand why so many reality shows starring formerly famous people were picked up in the 2000s — so few of them lasted beyond two seasons. House of Carters was one such show. The reality series starring Nick and Aaron Carter and their siblings lasted a whopping eight episodes.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg has had one of the most random careers of anyone in Hollywood. He's had his hand in multiple surprising ventures, including his 2000s reality show Snoop Dogg's Father Hood. The E! reality series followed him and his family living their lives, and it was canceled after just two seasons.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan has seemingly lived 1,000 lives, all in the public eye. One of her lives took her to Greece, where she ran a beach club and filmed the series Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club. Reports swirled about Lohan and the status of the club after the show aired, but what is known is that the series ended after one season.
